How to Book Your Pet’s Flight with Green Freight Shipping International
When should I book my pet’s flight?
Well, this really is dependent on the destination and the amount of preparation involved. The most important point to remember is that you should allow your pet PLENTY of time to get acclimatized to the new airline approved travel crate – we recommend at least 2 weeks.
At the time of booking, we will arrange to have the airline approved travel crate couriered to you on an overnight delivery service. It is recommended that your pet has at least 2 weeks to get used to the crate, but ideally your pet should have as much time as possible- this will really help to calm your pet’s nerves on the day of the flight and help your pet to feel safe and secure during their journey.
Another factor to take into consideration is applying for any pet travel paperwork. Again, depending on the destination, you may need to apply for pet import permits and these will need to be obtained prior to your pet’s flight. Of course if you are looking to book a full service, Green Freight Shipping International can take care of pet import permit applications for you.
If your pet is travelling anywhere outside of the E.U. (Apart from the USA and Canada) Then your pet will need a DEFRA ( USA Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) export health certificate and Green Freight Shipping International will be on hand to apply for this for you if required.
If you wish to apply for the DEFRA export health certificate yourself, you can do so by contacting DEFRA on: .
As a general rule, we require at least three weeks notice to make a booking. We can sometimes process bookings quicker than this, however making a last-minute pet travel booking is not recommended, due to the amount of detailed preparation work involved.
What do I need to book a flight for my Pet?
Each airline will have its own rules for pet flights regarding specific breeds that are accepted for travel. Sadly, a common rule is that snub-nosed breeds such as bulldogs and pugs, are not accepted for travel. This means that for snub-nosed breeds, the pet flight options can be very limited. Green Freight Shipping International are aware of every airline’s regulations for breed acceptance and can advise you accordingly and look for alternative pet flight options where required. If you do have a snub-nosed breed, we recommend you fill in our online quotation enquiry form and we can get back to you with the most suitable airline and route for your pet’s relocation.
